The CHED
The Commission on Higher Education is the governing body covering both public and private higher education institutions as well as degree-granting programs in all tertiary educational institutions in the Philippines. The CHED was established in May 18, 1994 through Republic Act 7722 or the Higher Education Act of 1994.
The Zonal Research Center
The Commission on Higher Education created nine zonal research centers (ZRCs) throughout the country by virtue of CHED Memorandum Order No. 8 series of 2000. The zonal research center is an expression of CHED’s commitment to build research capabilities among higher educational institutions (HEIs). The ZRCs are administratively under the CHED’s Office of Policy, Planning, Research and Information Research Department (OPPRI-RD). The current director of the OPPRI-RD is Dr. Jean Tayag.
The Zonal Research Center NCR Group 1
The CHED selected DLSU-Manila as one of the nine zonal research centers throughout the country. As a ZRC, DLSU-M was assigned a specific area of responsibility that covered 59 higher educational institutions (HEIs) located in Manila, Pasay, Las Piñas, Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Makati, Taguig, Pateros, Pasig, Mandaluyong, and San Juan. It was tasked to prepare and implement a rolling zonal research program for a three-year duration. This led to the formulation of the Zonal Research Program 2004-06.
